I sometimes find it hard to find great presents for people. Often when I am on a deadline I never seem to be able to find the perfect gift. For Mothers Daythis year my Mom got me a fantastic present. She gave me year passes to Oregon State Parks and to Metro Parks.
While it may not seem to be such a wonderful gift to some, I think it was fabulous. These lands were set aside because of their beauty and historical significance. They are a great way to spend the day, cool off when it is hot out, and to teach kids about how spectacular nature is.
Yesterday was a very hot day in my area and the kids were restless. So I packed a picnic and set off to a nearby park, Dabney State Recreation Area. The park is located on the Sandy River and offers great hiking, swimming and disc golf. My girls loved walking around and seeing all the birds (red tailed hawks, a bald eagle, canada geese). There are large open areas to run in and giant trees.

Besides the wooded areas, there is also river frontage. We spent a lot of time playing on the banks of the river.

It was a wonderful day at the park. I cannot thank my Mom enough for such a thoughtful gift that will continue to bring us joy long past Mothers Day.

I miss you, lady face! And of course we miss your adorable girls. Things have been crazy but they’re settling down. We should make a play date for you to bring the girls over to the park behind our house soon!
