Preschool

This last week my girls started preschool for the first time. They have spent their whole lives with myself being their primary caregiver and rarely being watched by someone who wasn’t a family member.  I was nervous on how they would react to suddenly not having me around.  When the big day rolled around, Nicole woke early with the flu.  Nadia has never been one to deal well with change and has been the clingier of the two, so I was worried she would react badly to going to school without her sister.  I sent her anyway.

IMAG1263She did better than I had expected!  My Mom dropped her off at school while I stayed home with Nicole.  After then initial fear of being “left” she settled down and did surprisingly well.  When she came home she was so excited to tell me all that she had done and to make her lunch for the next day.

The next day Nicole was feeling much better (lucky kid only got sick for a day while us grownups spent the week sick) and went to school with her sister.IMAG1265IMAG1266Nicole was also hesitant at first to go to school, but she quickly settled into the routine.  After coming home, they both were anxious to tell me all about their day and to make their lunch for the next day.  This lunch thing really excites them.  Nadia was very upset on Friday when she didn’t get to make lunch for the next day and pouted on Saturday that she didn’t get to go to school.

Full-day preschool seemed at first to me like it may be too much for my almost 3 year olds, but they love it.  They are already telling me things they learned and certain behaviors that were an issue before are starting to subside.  Plus, the break it gives me is invaluable.

Little Fair and the Best Pony Ride EVER

Having grown up in the wonderful Pacific Northwest, one of my favorite times of year is when the Puyallup Fair is running.  The whole area smells wonderfully of fried onions, fried bready creations, and animals (it is a 4H fair after all).  While I am sadly not in the area this year, I was able to attend a small fair in Las Vegas this year and take my girls on their first ride.

The San Gennaro Feast is held twice a year and celebrates the Saint San Gennaro.  Along with the rides my kids were most interested in, the feast also offers a huge variety of traditional Italian foods, vendors, and live entertainment.  The entire area smells of sausages and onions, it is wonderful.

This is the first year my girls have been big enough to ride on rides.  One of my girls was very upset she couldn’t ride the Ferris Wheel, but she settled on riding some metal Kangaroos that went in a circle and up and down.  While my girls loved this ride, I got the largest bruise on my knee from it as they are just not designed to accommodate an adult.  They also went on a small train ride that I think they thought would be a lot funner.  At the end both girls seemed a bit disappointed in the whole affair.  Their spirits were brought up by a fun pony ride.

The pony ride really seemed to be the highlight of their trip.  The pony ride was run by Dixie Pony Rides and the lady running the ride seemed to really care about what she was doing.  When we first attempted to ride, she asked us to come back later as some large equipment was being moved and she was worried the ponies might be upset.  I am glad she originally turned us away in order to help her ponies and ensure my kids had a better ride.  We returned on our way out of the event and my girls got to meet the ponies before the ride and got to take their ride before we paid for it, just in case they got scared.  I was so happy with the lady running the pony rides, she truly made my girls experience extra special.

Girlie Girls

This Momma has always been a tomboy.  I was never into all the girly things like clothes, jewelry, dolls, shoes, hair, fashion, etc.  I have recently decided that I kind of like jewelry, but not flashy blingy things.  Now I am the mother of two girls and I am realizing that I better figure out how to be a girl soon because they are anything but tomboys.

One of my daughters is extremely into jewelry.  I first noticed it about a year ago when we were walking through the Venetian Casino.  We came across a kiosk selling gaudy sparkly jewelry and she laid on the glass case and said WOW.  She is drawn to anything that may be jewelry and has to have it.  She is also in love with shoes.  I have found the best punishment for her is to not let her wear her shoes around the house.  I have zero fashion sense when it comes to clothes, however, she decides what she will wear and often tells me no when I pick something out (she is 2).

Her twin loves clothes.  She has recently starting putting on little fashion shows for me.  She goes into her room and comes out with a completely different outfit on, then changes again.  Today I caught her with 5 pairs of underwear on, two shirts and three skirts.  She seems to share my sense of fashion, but truly loves clothes.  She also wants me to do her hair (the little bit that she has).  I have long hair that I never do anything with except a ponytail or braid.  She wants clips, headbands, bows etc.

This Momma needs to learn how to be a girl.
