After a short postponement, we finally visited the zoo. I have been anxiously awaiting this trip as I am a zoo enthusiast and there no large nice zoos in Las Vegas.
About five minutes after our arrival, Nicole had a loud and long meltdown (about 40 minutes) that nearly ended our trip. If I hadn’t been so gun-ho about seeing the zoo we would have left. After she composed herself and resigned herself to the fact that yes indeed she must wear shoes, we had a lot of fun.
Taking children to the zoo is a much different experience than going by yourself. I am used to spending all day slowly meandering around reading all the signs and looking at plants and such. Young kids have no need for plants, signs, artifacts, etc. I didn’t get to see as much of the zoo as I would have liked, but that just means many many more trip are in my future.
This is a very nice zoo that exhibits the animals well. I love the bio-climatic zones that reminded me a lot of Woodland Park Zoo, my favorite zoo. I was sad that we didn’t get a change to visit the water exhibits as my girls had tired out (especially after the meltdown) and needed to leave. My next trip will start with this area.
I am anxious to visit this zoo more and experience all it has to offer. I am glad we bought a membership and I plan on putting it to great use.
